i have an older computer with a ton of data that has a screen ,that says some thing along the lines of needing “ORIGINAL SETUP CD-ROM” and to press “R” , to repair , i downloaded some thing from the “NET” to no avail ,can you possiblely assist me PLEASE ,THX ,thanks ,MKM , uniqueenigma@charter.net

You could probably repair all your XP problems but it depends on your particular problem and budget. You can get a superior laptop these days for as little as $300.

Windows 7 is good. However, the issue is moving your data and programs. Fabs 3 or 4 autobackup can get your data and so can PCMover from Laplink. PCMover can move your programs also. (It’s after 10 o’clock, do you know where your installation disks are .

At this point, would you say to upgrade to 7? I am having a lot of trouble with XP now, and am thinking about getting a new laptop with Windows 7 on it. I just don’t know if it’s capable of similar problems.

If it’s on the same system, why not just use the CD?
