THE COMPUTER IS TELLING ME THAT DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION IS NOT ALLOWING ME TO RUN A PROGRAM FOR MY OWN PROTECTION.

I get an error that reads: ” To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program. Name: Windows Explorer Publisher: Microsoft Corporation” The only option is to Close the message.

Microsoft has built protection into your system so that viruses and such which might try to run in prohibited places in your computer should be prevented from doing so. The Data Execution Prevention system is in charge of this. However, sometimes it protects you against legitimate programs.

The first thing to do is to check for any viruses or spyware by using anti virus and anti spyware software. For more about this see Computer Internet Security

If this has been done and the problem persists, do the following to prevent the Data Execution Prevention from applying to this program:

Click start->Control Panel->System. Select the Advanced tab, (Performance) Settings, Data Execution Prevention tab. Select “Turn on DEP (Data Execution Protection) for all programs and services except those I select”. Click Add - and browse to the Windows Explorer exe and then Click OK.

Since you have set DEP to ignore the Windows Explorer, it won’t stop it anymore. Any other program that it stops is probably a virus or some other bad program.

CAN CHANGING OR ADDING MEMORY CAUSE A DISK CRASH?

A technician of a famous computer manufacturer told me that this could happen.

I don’t believe this to be true. Other experts that I consulted felt the same way.

USER PROFILE CANNOT BE LOADED

You turn on your computer and you get the message “The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.”

The solution to this problem can be found at User Profile Error Fix

HOW DO I OPEN A CMK FILE?

You need the Card Shop Plus program. It is used to make greeting cards and the like.

In general if you want to know what program to use for a particular file extension xyz, search for file type where xyz is the 3 letter (or longer) file extension and you will find results that will tell you what kind of program to use.

HOW DO I CHANGE SCREEN RESOLUTION

My screen resolution is too low and I can’t fit very much on my screen. How do I change it?

Find a free area on your desktop and right click. Select properties and then settings. Slide the slider to a setting that you are comfortable with. Try it and if it looks good and you like it, leave it that way
