The Macbook Air is not your typical laptop and because of its unique design some of the features of a regular laptop have been taken out to facilitate the thin form factor. Despite being an upgrade of the Macbook, the Macbook Air still lacks some features that the Macbook was initially designed with. These features include the FireWire and Ethernet port, and the security, Cardbus, and ExpressCard slots. The Macbook Air is different from other computer models from Macintosh as it only has a single USB port.
