With all the advances that we have made with computers, it seems that they have not made enough progress to prevent the high tech system from malfunctioning. PC users need to know how to deal with PC errors so that they can reap the benefits of modern computer power.

PC Repair. In Minutes.

I wrote the following article and it is published at Ezinearticles. The version below is slightly expanded and enhanced.

PC Error Handling

You are getting a PC error and at a minimum it’s annoying and it could be so severe that your computer is totally out of commission. You want relief and fast.

What Caused It?

The first thing that you need to do is discover the cause of the problem.

The rule is that the latest change caused the most recent error. If you recently installed some new hardware or new software, this is the likely cause of your problem. Do a search on the web for your problem. Alternatively, remove the hardware or software if this is an option.

You should also check the Windows log of errors that it detects called the event viewer. Click start and select run, type eventvwr.msc and enter. Click on system in the left pane and look for any error reports in the right column. If there is a link in the error report, click on it to get the details. The link will often provide you with a possible solution.

Do the same for application and the other choices on the left hand side until you find something that applies to your problem.

Your Windows Help and Support also provides troubleshooting instructions for a great number of problems.

Registry Repair Fallacy

When you search for a solution to your problem, you will get back a slew of answers telling you to use this or that registry repair program. The vast majority of problems on the PC have nothing to do with registry issues. It can also be dangerous to use a low quality registry repair program. Many of the famous registry repair programs do more damage than good. See this article about the hazards of registry repair using the wrong tools or methods.

Severe PC Error

If you can’t boot or are getting BSODs (blue screen of death) or experiencing frequent crashes or suffer from a severe virus infection, you may need a repair install. For XP, Michael Stevens Tech has full details how to do this. However, you need to have your XP install CD. It can be tricky and you need to be somewhat technical to get it done right. Some will tell you just to forget about it, reformat and reinstall the operating system but if you do this, you will lose all your programs and data.

Reimage will repair your XP system in short order for a minimal fee with a money back guarantee. This is your best choice if you can’t get the repair install to work yourself. It works really well and you can once again enjoy error free computing.
