PlayStation Eye will learn to recognize faces and even the user’s age

As Slash Gear revealed, Sony for the first time announced that the PlayStation Eye camera, which is destined for working with PlayStation 3, will get new function – facial recognition. As declared by Kish Hirani, the leader of Sony Europe subdivision, this function allows one to define not only the sex but also user’s age and such characteristics as nose, eyes, ears and even smiles. The combination Sony Motion Controller + PlayStation Eye should became an interesting and powerful instrument in PS3 user’s hands. The camera should also trace the user’s motions in 3D. It is significant that the Motion Controller has its own motion sensor. That’s why this controller also could trace users’ motions even when they are out of the PlayStation Eye coverage zone.

Besides, as Kish Hirani said, the game developers for PS3 should make some changes in the source code of games in order to enable this new function on PlayStation Eye.

Abilities of PlayStation Eye:

The high quality microphone has means for filtration of surrounding noise, which will result in human speech that will be transmitted more neatly and cleanly.

The Microphone guesses where the player is situated and corrects the signal cutting off any foreign noises and echo.
